Way, way back in “the day”, church steeples were basically a communication device. Bells tolled the hours, made the call to worship, and announced wedding nuptials. Before telephones, church steeples were used as lookouts and as a point from which to call volunteer fire fighters to battle. And of course, there was that story about Paul Revere and “One if by land, two if by sea”. Apparently, the common church steeple is still a modern communication device. T-mobile is paying a church in Quincy Mass about $1800 per month so that the cell phone company can install it’s cell towers inside the steeple.
