Taxes are a vital part of sustaining the government and ensuring that it continues to be able to provide the citizens with much needed services such as military protection and legal regulation. However, we have reached and passed a point where the sheer amount of taxation is bafflingly high and detrimental to a free functioning capitalist economy. After a certain threshold, taxation acts as a disincentive for work, a deterrent for innovation and entrepreneuralship, and an inhibitor of economic growth. Tax rates should be such that our government can perform its bare bones, minimum duties and no more. All this unnecessary big government spending has to be stopped and more power and freedom returned to the people.
