Southern Minnesota tourism has to fight for tourists more with attractions rather than the lakes and nature that is found more in the northern part of the state. When people talk about a fishing vacation in Minnesota they talk about Leach Lake or one of the lakes that boarders Canada. The larger concentration of lakes doesn’t start until you get almost halfway up the state so the people in the south tend to build attractions, things like the giant statue of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe. They may not get people to come just to see their attraction but they will get a lot of people to stop on their way to the lakes up north.
