What an interesting concept!  Leatherback Turtles have no hard shell.  The carapace (or exoskeleton) consists of skin and oily flesh.  These sea giants are endangered due to the harvesting of the leatherback turtle eggs.  While adult sea turtles have very few known predators, the eggs and babies are often in danger from seals, birds, and small mammals.

The greatest threat to the leatherback turtle is from mankind.  While there are now policies in place to protect this endangered species and their eggs from hunters, many more are killed each year in fishing nets and from chemical spills as well.  We need to take better care of these magnificent creatures.
